Message from the President/Founder

Rich in natural resources and cultural heritage, Mongolia is in a unique position to unleash its potential for development. With the rise of globalization and increasing competition between nations, Mongolia needs a new generation of leaders with vision in order to make a difference: not only within the borders of their own country but also in the world. After decades of communism and a state controlled economy, Mongolia is striving to integrate itself into the global economy. As Mongolia begins to open up to the rest of the world, the country needs a new paradigm of change in its educational sector in order to play a major role in reforming all sectors of the economy and the society in general.

Today’s world requires graduates to be not only academically successful but also socially competent in a multicultural work environment. GLU believes that leadership is essential in driving societal change and that integrating leadership principles with an academic curriculum is critical for developing graduates who are capable of taking responsibility and leading positive change in society with distinctive moral education. Leadership centered education is the core concept of learning at GLU and a variety of leadership and self-development courses are integrated into our educational curriculum’s across disciplines. Following my journey at Harvard, I championed a new leadership development program for all of our students, faculty, staff and stakeholders on the subjects of authentic and adaptive leadership concepts and practices. GLU’s graduates must be successful not only in terms of their academic and professional success but also their character and moral integrity that sets them apart from others.

With a vision to prepare global citizens, the Global Leadership University has emerged as a premier institution of higher learning in Mongolia with the most extensive network of global partner institutions around the world. Today, GLU students can choose to study on 2+2, 1+1 and exchange programs at over 160 prestigious universities in the United States, Canada, South Korea and Taiwan and GLU has positioned itself as Mongolia’s leading global university. The enrollment at GLU has tripled over the past few years and we have over 3,000 students in six different schools. GLU’s candidacy in ACBSP, a global business education accreditation council, shows its commitment to strive for quality assurance for all of its programs. Fully accredited by the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports and the Mongolian National Education Accreditation Council, GLU has been striving to improve its quality of its programs and promote innovation and creativity in teaching and learning methodologies.

At our 10th year anniversary celebration, we have redefined our mission for the next ten years as preparing a new generation of entrepreneurs who will be empowered to create positive changes in building prosperity and a sustainable future for Mongolia and the world. Institutional resources will be spent on educating and empowering the next generation of leaders who are prepared to succeed in the age of technology transformation and the rise of artificial intelligence. Our faculty, staff and stakeholders have started shifting our strategies and program content in alignment with changes happening in our world including the COVID pandemic and the education sector disruption. It is indeed both challenge and opportunity in terms of reforming our curriculum and shifting to digitization.

Following the examples of world-class universities such as Harvard, GLU has adopted case-based teaching methodologies and Harvard-style curriculum in our educational offerings. Our students will start learning English, Chinese and Korean languages from first year on and have an extensive choice of continuing on to joint degree programs such as 2+2, 1+3 and 1+1 at world’s leading universities. GLU requires and reinforces every student to go abroad and experience the world outside of Mongolia at least for even a semester. We also host a growing number of international students in classrooms to nurture a global mindset for all students.

I welcome you to join us at our vibrant institution to take advantage of our unique learning programs, engaged student body and internationally renowned faculty members and global educational opportunities. Most importantly, you will have an opportunity to develop yourself as an authentic global leader who is prepared to succeed in whatever career path you will take in the future!

Yours Sincerely, Otgonbat Barkhuu
